Christmas movies to binge-watch this holiday season
The holiday season is coming soon, and although partying is synonymous with Christmas, sometimes you just want to laze on your sofa cloaked with a weighty blanket, munch on a huge bag of chips, and watch a feel-good movie. Isn’t that what the holidays are all about? That is to unwind, relax, and not be pressured to do something. Ain’t any other time but Christmas to get away with that.

Here are a bunch of Christmas movies you should watch:
A Christmas Carol (1951)
There are countless film adaptations of this Charles Dickens 1843 novella but the 1951 British production directed by Brian Desmond Hurst is the one to watch. Alastair Sim was simply the best Ebenezer Scrooge out of every actor who played the same role.
Christmas With the Kranks (2004)
Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis play parents who originally planned to skip Christmas but they now have to prepare a last-minute celebration for their daughter’s surprise visit.
Get Santa (2014)
This family comedy film stars Academy Award-winner Jim Broadbent as Santa Claus, who asks help from a 9-year-old boy, Kit Connor and his father, Rafe Spall after crashing his sleigh into their garden shed.
Trading Places (1983)
This is a loose adaptation to Mark Twain’s novel The Prince and the Pauper. Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy play financially contrasting men who switch lives. Trading Places is a comedy with a heart. Aykroyd and Murphy have the best chemistry on screen.
The Santa Clause (1994)
Tim Allen plays Scott, a divorced dad, who has custody of his son (Eric Lloyd) on Christmas Eve. After Santa falls from their roof and dies, they are magically transported to the North Pole, where Bernard, an elf, explains that Scott must act as Santa before the next Christmas arrives.
Elf (2003)
A box office, mainstream hit, this has got to be one of the must-watch Christmas movies. Will Ferrell is Buddy, a human, who lives with and is raised by elves at the North Pole. He discovers that he is not an elf so he goes to New York to search for his real father.
Krampus (2015)
With a combination of humour and scares, Krampus hits the balance. It’s set in modern times and tells of a mythological European folk beast’s takeover of a dysfunctional family’s holiday.
The Princess Switch (2018)
Vanessa Hudgens stars in this rom-com playing two characters who switch places and fall in love with each other’s lover. This is also a loose adaptation to the classic, The Prince and the Pauper. This has a bunch of sequels so prepare to watch for those too.
A Christmas Doctor (2020)
Dr Zoey Garner (Holly Robinson Peete), a travelling doctor is now assigned to take over the role of the sole physician in the small town of Willow Brook while he undergoes surgery. Zoey gets to meet Luke (Adrian Holmes) and gets to love living in that town.
